Vote! Sep 29
I just returned home from doing something that totally makes me excited~voting! I'm not sure why I love to vote, but I definitely do.
Here are some of my thoughts about voting and Memphis, in general:
- I saw Herman Morris there and that made me excited. I failed to roll down my window and tell him I voted for him, though everything in me wanted to do this.
- I think the city of Memphis is probably one of the most horrible cities to raise a family in America. We need major reformation. I have never met anyone here who likes the city of Memphis unless they grew up here. I actually did not grow up in the city because I was a suburbanite. In fact, when Aaron and I moved back to Memphis after college, I shed a few tears upon realizing our decision to rent in Memphis. I quickly got over that, and even excitedly purchased a home in the city and have no desire to leave our sweet city neighborhood. I really like Memphis and have developed a deep burden for our city. My desires are truly growing to help this depreciating city, although I admit I do not even know where to begin so I pray and vote. I even want to raise our family here, although I'm sure if I knew the greatness of other cities, my desires would change.
- It did dampen my spirits a bit that there were so few young people voting (young people, meaning in their late teens-20s). I'm just assuming that these "young people" are not as much procrastinators as I am and have already voted.
- If you have yet to vote, do vote! Just don't vote for Herenton or Carol Chumney. Surely I do not need to explain my reasoning for Herenton. And, although I don't know much about Carol Chumney, I do know that she fails to speak to me when I see her walking in our neighborhood, even when I look straight in her eyes and say hello. Anyone that rude does not need to lead a city.
- One more thing: there was a man standing in line behind me smacking and popping his gum. This aggravated me to no end. I'm sure he was just bored and trying to pass the time , but I found this incredibly rude. It took everything in me not to turn around and tell him to please stop. Unfortunatley, I'm not that brave (as you can probably surmise by not telling Morris I voted for him). My advice to you: bring a book to read while you wait. (By the way, it just took 35 minutes from the time I got there until I walked out from voting...and the line was way out the door.)
Happy Voting! And, may McCormick, Conrad, Hedgepeth, and Morris win! (I realize I should have voted Republican all the way and voted for Willingham, but I just don't think he has a chance...)
This entry is dedicated to Paul Boyd, to whom I attribute my excitement about politics. Remember the name...one day he will hold office in our city.

amen.
Paul for President!
you made me wish we were in memphis so that I could have a part in this vote!
Can't wait to see you at the wedding this weekend!
I grew up in Memphis but have been away for many years now. The traffic scares me to death when I'm driving over there now. But my reason for commenting, the gum...... ask Brandi.
