I have not forgotten that I'm searching for ways that Memphis has hope. It's been over a month since my last post about this, so obviously this has been a difficult assignment for me. Here's the sixth one...

The Tigers. A little over 2 weeks ago, I would say the majority of the city woke up very disheartened by the results of the previous night's basketball game. I must also admit that I nor Aaron were avid followers of the Tigers over the entire season but when tournament time hit we cheered like die-hard fans. All that to say, the Tigers, specificially the b-ball team, gives me hope in Memphis. The city joined together in one common cause and passionately cheered their team on. When the team placed in the Final Four and then in the championship game (see, I don't even know what that game is called...Brienne, help me out.), it seemed all of Memphis ran out to buy the latest t-shirt and adorned whatever they could get their hands on with blue. I loved going down the main streets of Memphis and seeing fans holding signs...and people even dressed up as the Tiger (okay, now I'm really showing how little I know...he has a name but I cannot for the life of me remember). I loved the flags waving on cars and front porches. Red, yellow, white, and black....we all became blue throughout the tournament. That is hope. I know it may be far-fetched but it shows our city can unite. And, we're still united in the pleas for CDR to come back one more year and in the jubilations that Tyreke Evans has joned the team.

Go Tigers!

Excellent post! I very much agree the Tiger basketball team gives the city of Memphis hope! It was so amazing to see the city united!!

Btw: You definitely know more than you think you do about Tiger bball!! The last game is the campionship game!!! A few things to note: the REAL tiger's name is 'TOM' (TOM II to be exact. The first one died and they got another several years ago) and the mascot dressed up at the games is 'Pouncer.' So there you go! ;)

AND so sad that CDR is definitely leaving... :(

i'm so glad to see your posts about the good things about memphis. i've been working on my "Reason's Why I Love Living in Memphis" list for a while...most of it revolves around food. BUT i really do love living here...the good, the bad and the ugly..it's my city and i like it. there are so many people who love to talk about the bad stuff and i think if they would use their time to focus on the good stuff, then maybe we could make this city something great.

we were definitely heartbroken at the end of the basketball season. we couldn't talk about it for a few days. :) but i did love how everyone came together and you could see the pride in people's faces. for once, everyone was proud to be from memphis....i just wish it happened more often.
